- It will show your preparedness. Imagine this: You are waiting in line at the coffee shop, the person behind you in on the phone and all of sudden they tap you on the shoulder and ask for something to write with. You pull out a pencil and they scribble down some information. A little later they come up to you and hand you your pencil back and explain why they needed it. The phone call was from a famous treasure hunter and he was relaying information to the man who asked you for the pencil. The man then introduces himself as Jeff Bezos and offers to pay all your expenses and salary to come along with him because of your awesome preparedness. It may be a little far fetched – but preparedness always leaves a great impression!
- You never know when you will want to write an idea down. Now, have you ever been sitting at a stop light and had a flood of to-dos race through your mind in a moment of perfect clarity – if only you had a pencil to write that strand of perfection down. If you always carried a pencil, then you would have a pencil to write those ideas down! Wouldn’t you? You can’t say I didn’t warn you.
- A pencil is always ready. A pencil has a few advantages over pens and other writing tools. You never run out of lead without warning. You can always get a really good idea of how much lead you have left by looking at how long your pencil is. If it is really short you might want to grab a new pencil and use the small one for something else. As a side note, pencils are also really easy to sharpen – you can use a pencil sharpener, scissors, knife, sandpaper, rock, your teeth, a beaver’s teeth, etc.
- You never know when you will want to stab someone/something. It may sound silly but a pencil could be used in an emergency for defense. Or if you are lost in a jungle, you could get some hollow bamboo as a blow gun. Cut the eraser on the pencil to add fletchings and then you have a blowgun dart you can use over and over.
The bottom line is that a pencil is very useful and a staple for anyone to carry around with them all the time! So don’t forget to grab a nice wooden pencil toady to keep with you (don’t use a mechanical – they just aren’t as versatile).
